The new series from AMD with the introduction of the new Phenom II processors that will support the new AM3 socket and also support the newer DDR3 memory and the refurbishment of the onboard memory into include the newer DDR3 controller. The MSI version of the 790FX with the DDR3 support is still a long way but introduces a 140W CPU power support so it can handle the latest of the CPU’s in the Phenom II series with more over-clocking head-room when it comes to stability.
The MSI 790FX-GD70 is a new board design, with an all black coloration with even the heat-sinks are being covered with black colour range and mostly occupying the CPU PWM’s to cool them which might be a problem in installing even the OEM type coolers the size of the MOSFET cooler might take a lot of space out of the top of the board layout even the memory modules are squeezed to make some room for the PUC coolers buy also making a headache in installing any large memory heat-spreaders.
The board also counts as the fourth generation 790Fx series with the combination of four combination graphics card with full double CPI space for each of the PCiex 16x slots, enough space to add double slots of 4870’s. And also the inclusion of full support of eight SATA ports two pointing upward just on top of the third graphics and also the rest of the six are pointing 90 degrees out to the board for long graphics cards are used. Plus some onboard buttons for easy on an off buttons and even over-clocking buttons to increase the clock frequency of the core and the memory but you might check the POST debug for a real time check on the clock frequency, while the rest of the board layout shows that the board looks in good shape, full solid capacitors and also enough back I/O ports to make a LAN rig and placements of all components are in the right spot.
I my opinion of the opinion is a great mix of stuff added on the board full of ports to jack in the most of the graphics card and HDD’s, it has some also a bad use of heat-sinks in the MOSFETS giving the CPU not enough room for installing the cooler especially any tower Coolers like Thermalright ultra 120 cooler, but some improvement in the overall board temps and over clocking is easy to use and pretty responsive but still having to check the numbers before starting any games or apps, but MSI 790FX gave a better field for AMD stick their CPU into.

But there can be a real change when it comes to newer range motherboard and AMD is a little vague on that situation with the upcoming AMD3 series platform and the support DDR3 memory, and still has the same 790FX or GX name, people wouldn’t even Identify to what is new or just a marketing gimmick, AMD really needs to make a real change in their product line up.
